Guidelines for the use of the Ghent PDF Workgroup name

Developers are encouraged to refer to the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus profiles in their marketing literature. However, care should be exercised.

If the application conforms to whole set of profiles, the claim of “Conforms to all Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus profiles as defined in the <year> GWG PDF/X-Plus Profiles” is appropriate. Of course, <year> should be adjusted depending on the actual specifications supported.

If the application is for a specific profile or group of profiles in the area of profile creation and reporting, then the claim should read “Conforms to the profile creation and reporting of profile “name 1” and “name 2” of the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus profiles as defined in the <year> GWG PDF/X-Plus Profiles” must be made.

For example, the conformance claim for a preflight application for newspaper ads for 2003 should read “Conforms to the profile creation and reporting for the profile “NewspaperAds_1v1” of the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus profiles as defined in the 2003 GWG PDF/X-Plus Profiles”. Similarly, an application designed specifically for the creation of PDF files for newspaper ads should read “Conforms to the PDF/X-Plus file creation for the profile “NewspaperAds_1v1” of the Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus profiles as defined in the 2003 GWG PDF/X-Plus Profiles”.

It is not sufficient to claim that a product “Conforms to Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF/X-Plus Profiles”. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in action being taken by the Executive Committee of the Ghent PDF Workgroup.
