GWG Compliant Applications

This page lists all applications that have been verified by the GWG to be compliant with one or more of the GWG specifications:

• The GWG checks creation and preflight tools. The list below identifies the compliancy level for each application. GWG recommended PDF creation tools are marked with "(C)", GWG compliant preflight tools with "(P)". In case of applications that create PDF and perform preflight (such as typical workflow systems) "(C, P)" is used.
• The GWG makes specifications for many different market segments. The list below identifies those applications that support only a subset of those market segments.
• As vendors create new versions of their applications, older versions may no longer be supported by the vendor even though they are listed here. The GWG suggests to always use the most current version of the application together with the most current version of the GWG specifications.
• The GWG tests specific versions of applications (as submitted for testing by the vendors); changes that take place in later versions might cause unforeseen problems. Such problems or questions on using the GWG compliant applications can be reported on the GWG discussion forum.

NOTE

1. GWG recommended PDF creation tools
   
   A GWG recommended PDF creation tool is an application that has been field tested by multiple GWG members with a large number of production files. They guarantee a high level of reliability in creating "good" PDFs, on condition that the right PDF creation settings are used and that the layout document does not contain "problems" to begin with (e.g. low resolution images, white text set to overprint).
2. GWG compliant PDF preflighting tools
   
   The GWG compliant preflighting applications are applications that have been formally tested by the GWG, to make sure all preflight "errors" and "warnings" are captured correctly. To perform these tests the GWG uses a large set of test files, specifically created to check this kind of application. Compliancy testing of preflight applications ensures a very high reliability, although a 100% error proof software can never be guaranteed.
